Nail Art for Spring!

With spring comes flip flops, sundresses, and bright colors.  It's time to get your fingers and toes ready with a DIY mani/pedi.  After searching for the cutest spring nail trends, we chose three that we thought you'd love.  We've simplified these designs into easy to follow, step by step instructions.

What You Need:
-Tooth picks, small brush, or nail art pen in black
-Black Nail Polish
-White Nail Polish
-Red Nail Polish (lady bugs)
-Pastel Nail Polish (dandelions)
-Any Bright Colored Nail Polish (butterflies)
-Clear Nail Polish (Top and base coat)
**Tip:  Painting a clear base coat will make your manicure last longer

Ladybug Nails

1.      Pick out a matte red nail polish-Paint the whole nail. Apply at least 2 coats.
2.      Once the red polish dries, apply a thick black line across the top of each nail.
3.    Paint a black line down the center of your nail;  Use a toothpick, thin brush, or a nail art pen.
4.      Paint little black dots on each side of the line. Let all the black polish dry.
5.      Use white polish to paint two dots on top of the thick black line at the dip of your nail.  These are the eyes (use a toothpick, thin brush, or nail art pen)!
6.      Once everything has dried, apply a clear top coat-we like "First & Last" by China Glaze.

Dandelion Nails

1.  Paint all your nails one color (we recommend a pastel color)  Apply 2-3 coats. Let dry.
2. Pointer and Ring Finger: paint a thin black line from the tip to the center of your nail.  These are the stems to the dandelions.   (Use a toothpick, thin brush, or paint pen)
3.    Use white nail polish to paint small thin lines around the top of the black line (dandelion wisps).
4.      Paint little black dots on each side of the line. Let all the black polish dry.
5.      Middle and Pinky Finger:Using white nail polish, paint short thin lines across your nail.  Your goal is to make these lines appear to be dandelion wisps blowing in the wind.
6.      Once everything has dried, apply a clear top coat and let dry!

Butterfly Nails

1.  What color do you want your butterflies to be? Orange? Purple? Rainbow? It’s up to you! Use this color to paint the whole nail. Let dry.
2.   Apply a thick black diagonal line across the tip of your nail.
3.    Using a toothpick or thin brush, paint a thin curved black line near your cuticle.  This line should be on the same angle as the thick one you painted in step 2.
4.     Paint 4 thin black lines connecting the line near your cuticle and the diagonal swipe at your tip. Let dry.
5.     Take a pure white nail polish and apply different sized dots on your black tips.
6.      Once everything has dried, apply a clear top coat and let dry!

We had so much fun making this tutorial, we hope you enjoy it!  Do you have any favorite spring nail designs? Send us a photo!

Bring Art to Life: A Guide to Outdoor Art Exhibits

The world awakens in the spring, transforming everything into a work of art. It's time for us to come out of hibernation and take advantage of all the interesting places to visit around us! If you're looking to take a day-trip, here are some places that we love to visit:

1. Grounds For Sculpture- Hamilton Township, NJ 08619

A museum and park filled with 240 sculptures created by artists from all over. It is beautiful this time of year, while all the flowers are blooming. This is one of my favorite spots to go; The sculptures are outside, allowing you to enjoy the weather while you wander from piece to piece. By incorporating the natural surroundings, many of the sculptures are part of three dimensional recreations of famous paintings. Monet's Field of Poppies is one of the paintings brought to life in Grounds for Sculpture. You literally feel like you’re in the painting!
Adults: $12
Children (6-17): $8
Places to eat: Rat’s Restaurant, the Peacock Café, The Gazebo

2. Longwood Gardens-Kennett Square, PA 19348

This is the perfect place to go during the spring season! Longwood Gardens is made up of various gardens, meadows and woodlands. Each of these sections is dedicated to specific types of plants (i.e. the Rose Garden and Bonsai Collection). Spring blooms, such as tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils are currently being featured. While all of the horticultural displays are beautiful, my personal favorite is the lily pads.
Adults: $18
Children (4 and under): FREE
Places to eat: The Terrace, The Café

 3. Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens- Philadelphia, PA 19147

A total hidden treasure! Located on South Street, the Magic Gardens are sandwiched between two buildings, both covered completely in colorful mosaics. I've only gotten to peek into this place, but it definitely caught my eye and seems to be a great place to check out.
From April 19th to June 9th, the featured exhibit is “From the Ground Up: Land, Water, and Sky.” This place is definitely worth seeing.

Adults: $7
Children (6-12): $3
5 and under: FREE
Students and Seniors: $5
Places to eat: Anywhere on South Street!
